Some time ago, when tips for the hobby were given on the Games Workshop website , they posted an interesting guide on how to decorate Warhammer bases following different styles to set your miniatures in all kinds of terrain. After a long time looking for that article, I have finally managed to find it, and of course, I share it with all of you. We go first with the general description and then I put all the themes that can be achieved with this simple system. The guide is also made with current paint strips, so it is very easy to follow.
How to decorate Warhammer bases
Texture
Basically sand glued with white glue. In recent times I have become fond of Vallejo’s Brown Earth, which is a paint that emulates that irregular effect of sand without being so dirty or having problems with later falls. Citadel’s Texture paints also serve this purpose, so you can texture your bases however you see fit.
If you use sand, a good trick is to paste it before giving the primer. This way it will be more secure later.
Base Coat
Again, in the case of having used sand, it is convenient to water down the paint so that it gets into all the nooks and crannies.
Light 1
Once the Base Coat dries, we apply a dry brush without loading the brush too much. In this case the color Steel Legion Drab has been used.
Light 2
After drying the previous step, we proceed with a second layer of dry brush. Ushabti Bone has been used here.
Edges
This step doesn’t need much explanation, though it should be noted that, again, Steel Legion Drab is a color that works well for decorating bases of many types.
Grass
A bit of electrostatic grass will give your bases that touch of class. Simply glue it on with white glue in an irregular fashion and shake off the excess.
