An ambitious historical army bridging two eras of the Middle Ages: the Italo-Normans who ruled southern Italy and Sicily during the 12th century, and the Italian mercenary companies that professionalised warfare in the 14th century around outfits such as the White Company. A perfect showcase of how studio-grade painting can tell history one miniature at a time.

Featured techniques
The palette blends earthy tones (burnt ochres, muted burgundies, olive greens) with polished metallics. Controlled zenithal highlights give immediate volume to chainmail, gambesons and plate, while heraldic freehand on shields and surcoats brings historical identity to every unit. The result is an army that reads clearly on the tabletop and holds up in a display case.
About the process
Each block was painted in batches to keep chromatic cohesion across units, honouring the client's historical references and adding small variations (mud splashes, oxidation, wear) that make a campaigning army believable. Bases were decorated with period-appropriate earths and grasses to tie the whole force together.
