The project
This Warhammer Age of Sigmar commission brings together two of the most imposing centrepieces of the Lumineth Realm-lords army alongside a support hero and one of the most iconic figures of the Mortal Realms: Gotrek Gurnisson. The visual focus falls on the two huge monstrous kits: on the left, Avalenor, the Stoneheart King, with his signature mountain peaks on the back; on the right, an Alarith Spirit of the Mountain wielding his two-handed warhammer.
The colour work on the Spirits of the Mountain stands out for an extremely clean ceramic white on the armour plates, contrasted with controlled shadows in the recesses and precise lining of every gold filigree and bas-relief. Cloths and loincloths are resolved with a soft gradient in deep blue and cyan tones, with light runes at the edges and turquoise accents on tassels and power gems.
On the character side, the Scinari Calligrave keeps the faction's colour coherence with a blended blue cloak, white robes and clean gold metals. Gotrek Gurnisson deliberately breaks the overall cool palette with his emblematic Slayer crest in bright fire orange, warm flesh work with muscle shading, and a scenic base littered with battle debris and shattered skaven shields.
To visually unify the Lumineth pieces we applied an alpine meadow / plains of Hysh basing style, using fresh green static grass, tall grass tufts, grey rocks lined with drybrushing, and miniature bonsai elements that anchor the oriental, mythic aesthetic of the Alarith.
Featured techniques
- Clean white armour: smooth light basecoats (airbrush and brush) to avoid a chalky texture on the large white Alarith armour surfaces.
- Gold trim lining: lining and edge definition of the intricate gold filigree on the Spirits of the Mountain.
- Cloth blending & freehand runes: blue gradients on the hanging cloths with Lumineth runes applied in light contrast.
- Flesh & hair contrast: muscle shading and a vibrant gradient on Gotrek Gurnisson's orange crest.
- Alpine scenic basing: texturing and multi-layer flock, grass tufts, grey slate rocks and small decorative trees.
