Seraphon Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur for Warhammer Age of Sigmar painted to Level 2: crimson scales, turquoise rider, Mesoamerican gold and an arid savanna base.
Private commission · Level 2 · Delivered October 2022. Warhammer Age of Sigmar monster centerpiece featuring a Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur, painted to our Level 2 standard with a striking visual contrast between the crimson scales of the predator and the vibrant turquoise skin of the rider on an arid savanna base.
The project
This centerpiece commission for Warhammer Age of Sigmar brings one of the most iconic beasts of the Seraphon army to the table: the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur. Painted in October 2022 to our Level 2 standard, the goal was maximum battlefield presence, combining tabletop readability with an ultra-clean, high-contrast colour finish.
The Carnosaur's body was built with an airbrushed transition from a pale bone/sand belly to a saturated crimson scale carapace, topped by a shaded matte black spinal ridge. To bring out the reptile's organic texture we applied controlled washes into the scale joins and selective technical dry brushing (overbrushing) across the dorsal scales and limbs.
Against the earthy red of the mount, the Saurus Oldblood pops instantly thanks to his turquoise and ice-cyan skin, shaded with deep blue tones in the muscular recesses. The Mesoamerican-inspired ornaments — the howdah throne, the topmost standard, the bracers and the relic weapon — are painted in a warm bronzed gold with recess lining and small decorative inlays in blue and red.
The model sits on an oval arid savanna / dry steppe base, textured with fine ochre sand, warm earth pigment and a balanced scatter of dry grass tufts at varying heights in brown, pale green and beige tones, grounding the predator's weight and aggression naturally within its ecosystem.
