The project
Delivered in October 2022, this commission deploys the military might of the Galactic Republic for the Star Wars Legion wargame. Executed to the technical demands of our Level 4 (Showcase) standard, the set solves the classic challenge of painting white at scale by breaking up the chromatic monotony with rigorous volumetric lighting and precision lining.
The centrepiece is the TX-130 Saber-class combat tank. Its chassis wears the standard Republic scheme in white and crimson red. To reach the Level 4 finish, the armour received advanced weathering: two-tone chipping along aerodynamic impact edges, streaking marks and extreme edge highlighting on every hull plate. The result is a believable, heavy military vehicle that still keeps the pristine aesthetic of the saga.
The Phase II Clone Trooper infantry escorting the vehicle holds the same standard. The white plastoid armour contrasts radically with the visors and black bodyglove, using targeted oil washes to define every recess without dirtying the flat surfaces. The squad includes leaders and specialists with Z-6 rotary cannons, mortars and macrobinoculars, their weapons finished in satin dark metals so they never steal focus from the armour.
The whole detachment is unified through scenic bases of lush, damp meadow. Full coverage with static grass and assorted bright green tufts creates an exceptional complementary contrast against the white and red armour, visually anchoring the pieces to the gaming table.
Highlighted techniques
- Pin Wash / Capillary Panel Lining: oils and enamels for ultra-precise black lining in the joints of the white armour, maximising volumetric contrast.
- Advanced Weathering & Chipping: battle damage on the TX-130 tank simulating red paint chipping down to bare metal, using sponge work and fine brush lining.
- Volumetric White Armor: airbrush lighting that avoids the flat, chalky look of white, achieving a ceramic armour texture on the clones.
- High-Contrast Meadow Basing: meadow bases designed chromatically to enhance the aseptic armour scheme through natural complementary colours.
